PhotoJ photographers went on assignment recently to highlight various classroom activities. Photographer Lauren Kerr visited Spanish III class.
Teacher: Mr. Rauch
What was happening: Mr. Rauch’s normally calm Spanish III class was turned into an amateur basketball arena of competitive learning and fun. The class was reviewing future tense verbs and the use of “por” and “para” for their test the next day. The class played a review game called “trashketball” where the students are asked questions to answer on individual whiteboards and raise their answers in the air. Whoever answers correctly and raises his or her whiteboard first has the opportunity to shoot the ball into the trashcan and earn a point for their team.
Sophomore Dorothy Mies says: “The competition of everyone is fun.”
Mr. Rauch says: “The game helps the students remember concepts by repetitive review. The kids get to do something different than everyday work and they’re thinking about the game rather than the fact that they’re studying.”
Sophomore Drew Davis says: “It makes learning effective and fun!”
