Flyer: Issue 5 Coming soon

This Friday, the fifth issue of the Flyer will be debuting, and the staff is excited for you to be able to see the finished product. Here’s some topics to look forward to:
- Our centerpiece will be exploring the expectations that the movie “High School Musical” set for elementary schoolers everywhere… and how many of them let us down. Photo editor and HSM fanatic Katie Gross took to the school to see what differences and similarities she could find between the beloved movie and real life. So from detention to lunch, what’s really different?
- Staff writer Lakin Shelton wrote a piece about the priests who have helped lead Bishop Carroll in the past. “This article will be catching up with the past chaplains at Carroll from about the last 13 years: what they are up to, their new assignments, and what they miss about being at the school.” Shelton is excited for students to read this because she knows that for her, the chaplains at Carroll make a big impact, and she wants other students who are curious about them to know what they are up to.
- Editor Mary Ebberwein interviewed the new head football coach Dusty Trail to learn about his journey from athlete to coach. In this article, Ebberwein relays some of Trail’s stories from his younger days, and how he came to work at Bishop Carroll as a teacher and coach. Students should look forward to learning more about a relatively unknown Carroll legend.
- The new club “Knits for Kids” is featured in an article written by Carlie Pracht. “Two juniors started a knitting/looming club where they knit hats for babies in the NICU,” Pracht said. She hopes that by reading this article, students can learn more about a brand new club, and may even considering joining.
- Staff writer Nathan Lies reports about second year teacher Spencer Shellhammer’s St. Rose Philippine Duchesne award. The award, which is given out by the diocese, shows the impact Shellhammer has made on the Bishop Carroll community. Lies gives students of Shellhammer’s a voice to share their praises of their teacher.
