Bishop Carroll students are going to make history by deciding a name for its student section, with the big reveal coming on Friday.

The school has 13 options to choose from, and voting will take place on Monday and Tuesday. The assistant principal of Bishop Carroll, Alan Schuckman, said that a name for the section will provide more unity and help BC move up in the student section rankings done by VarsityKansas.com.

BC was seventh in the most-ranking rankings, and Kapaun is first. Many schools in the rankings have names for their student sections: Goddard is The Den, Valley Center is The Hornets’ Nest, Andover is The Blue Crew.

New Athletic Director Mr. Tyler Fraizer will announce the name of the student section at the pep rally Friday. A BC graduate himself, Mr. Fraizer suggested the idea of The Arn – which means “eagle power” in German.

In an unscientific survey of journalism students, the most popular names were Bird Gang, Eagles Landing and Flight Deck.  

“It will give us an identity,” Fraizer said of the new name. “As far as anyone knows, we’ve never had a name before, so for me, it’s exciting to be part of school history.”
