Students sound off on Sweetheart Dance
Decorations a hit, music not so much
February 14, 2018
About 600 students attended the annual Sweetheart Dance. Most thought attendance was down, but Mrs. Aubrey Logsdon, who helped plan the dance, said it may have just appeared that way since students were more spread out than usual. Mrs. Logsdon said the kids who attended had fun and that she wished kids would have stayed longer. The decorations at the dance received lots of compliments.
Journalism students gave their opinions on the Sweetheart Dance:
Carlos Davis: The sweetheart dance on Saturday was pretty average. What was good about it was they were taking pictures of you and your date. What was bad about it was that hardly anyone was there, and the music they played was the same they’ve played since my freshman year and I’m a senior now. The best song they played was definitely “Every time we touch” because it got everyone hyped and excited. Something that I observed was there was a ton of empty spots on the dance floor, it seemed like everyone was on their own island, where in past dances, everyone would be together.
Diana Eastman: The dance this weekend was good. *The highlight of the dance was when one of the teachers danced on the floor. The best songs played were the Ed Sheeran songs. The worst part was when the dj would play the same song twice. To sum up this experience I would say it wasn’t as fun as last year not a lot of people went. *Mrs. Gordon and Mrs. Brandon
Julia Johnson: The Sweetheart Dance on Saturday was a blast; I’ve gone every year so far, and this was by far the best. For me, the most fun part is always before the actual dance, going to Mass and out for dinner with all of my friends. At the dance, we took lots of pictures, talked with friends, and of course danced! My favorite songs to dance to are always Shake it Off and Footloose. *The funniest part of the night was when a few friends and I tried to do ballet to some of the songs! * Editor’s note: Julia is an accomplished performer, having danced with Ballet Wichita for nine years after starting at the age of 3.
Kayla Henderson: The sweetheart dance was by far not the best. The decorations were amazing and the little photo station they had was ‘picture perfect’ but what brought down the whole dance was the music. No one wanted to dance because they kept playing the same old songs from every dance. By the end of the night they had the playlist on repeat. Everyone was getting snacks and drinks or just talking to the teachers at the table. If there was a better DJ then it would be a completely different story.
Helen Nguyen: The dance was really fun. I got to hang out with a really decent guy and we just enjoyed ourselves. Everyone really got down when “shake it off” came on. I liked the string lights on the railings instead of the normal ceiling lights near the bleachers. I’m kind of sad though now that it’s all over.
