I strongly believe that teachers deserve to be paid more. Teachers work around the clock helping out students, grading papers and projects, and making sure their classes learn the material. Most teachers use their own money to decorate their classroom and provide materials for students to use. Teaching is not a job that is just done during school hours. They deserve more recognition.

It’s a known fact that Catholic school teachers are paid even less than public school teachers. It’s frustrating for me to see some of my favorite teachers leaving in order to find better paying jobs at a public school or in a different career completely. Some teachers are even working two jobs in order to make ends meet. To no fault of their own since they are so busy, it’s harder for them to teach to the best of their ability which can end up hurting their students.

A lot of people who would be wonderful teachers are turned away from this career because of the little pay. The “smart kids” are turning to things like engineering, healthcare, or business management instead of teaching. While none of these careers are bad and we need smart people for these jobs, we also need smart people to teach. I feel like money is a big factor into this. If teachers were paid more, then more people would be attracted to this field. Without teachers society would be in shambles. Our society gravely depends on teachers. If teachers stopped doing their job, how would we have doctors? How would we have engineers? How would we have any person do their job adequately without being taught? Just a thought.
