Breakdown:

The Golden Eagles went into this week looking to rebound from their difficult loss in their last game against Derby. The Golden Eagles were successful in achieving this goal as they were able to conquer the Bishop Miege Stags 50-28. The Stags were coming off of two huge wins against St. James Academy and Wamego. But despite the team’s recent hot streak, they had a rather difficult time stopping the Golden Eagles, specifically when it comes to the Golden Eagle rushing attack, led by senior running back Hunter Trail.

Recap:

The common theme of this past Friday’s game was the Stags’ inability to stop the rushing attack of the Golden Eagles throughout the course of the night. In fact, by the end of the night the offense of the Golden Eagles was able to compile 350 total rushing yards. This specific stat was the main reason for the Golden Eagles coming out on top against the Scags.

This win is a moment that I believe will be critical to the mindset of the Golden Eagles as they continue to fly through their season. This is a game that many believed would be an evenly matched and closely contested game throughout, but the Golden Eagles were able to go into the home of the Scags and seemingly inflict their will on their defense all night. This performance by the Golden Eagles will do a lot to affect their mindset going into the latter half of the year. They knew that they can inflict their will on some of the biggest names in the state of Kansas, and this game does nothing but confirm that.

Going Forward:

The Golden Eagles are going to have yet another big-time matchup this week, as they travel to the home of the Aquinas Saints. The saints are currently 4-2 on the season, and they have consistently been winning big-time games. But they seem to have hit a rough spot, as they have come up short in blow out losses against Lawrence and the 8-0 Omaha Warriors.

Despite these two recent losses, the Saints are still an extremely stout opponent that on a good day can stick with anyone. The Golden Eagles will have to continue to play their brand of football in order to have yet another big time victory this week.
