Calling the first seven weeks of the NFL season “crazy” would be an understatement. For starters, the AFC North is looking like the best division in the league. Every team in the division has a winning percentage of at least .500 and the Ravens look like a Super Bowl contender. On the flip side, the Bengals are off to a disappointing 3-3 start after making a Super Bowl appearance just two years ago.
This division also features some of the top defenses in the league. The Browns have given up the least amount of yards per game in the NFL, led by DE Myles Garrett, who has 7.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in just six games. The Ravens, who have the fourth leading tackler in the league, LB Roquan Smith, are just behind the Browns at second in yards given up per game.
The most disappointing team of the NFL season is definitely the Jets. They are amazing defensively, but Aaron Rodgers, their newly acquired QB, got hurt in the first quarter of their first game, resulting in a third-place spot in the AFC East so far.
The team that surprised the most people has to be the Lions. They are atop the NFC North with a 5-2 record and beat the defending Super Bowl champion, Chiefs, in the first game of the regular season on the road.
On the other side of the spectrum is the Panthers. They are winless through seven weeks and there isn’t much to be hopeful about. New Head coach Frank Reich was fired in the middle of the season last year by the Colts and he isn’t proving them wrong at all so far. Their rookie QB Bryce Young has also struggled thus far. His high potential is undeniable but at 5-10 he relies on getting out of the pocket, which is tough with a poor offensive line.
To conclude, there are plenty of storylines to follow this NFL season. From injuries to lockdown defenses to the Lions being a Super Bowl contender and to Tyson Bagent starting at QB, the NFL provides unmatched entertainment at the highest level.
